ANALYSIS: A thoroughly convincing win by David Elsworth's PREMIER PRIZE, who quickened up impressively from a position in the middle of the field to win what was probably a decent maiden in some style.
What caught the eye was how, when she got some momentum going, she really stretched out well and showed a genuine turn of foot on ground that was dead and loose. She was helped by a few hard-luck stories in behind here but you can't take anything away from her and she has clearly improved for her run last month.
Elsworth said: "That was a reasonable maiden, I'd say. It's a relief in some ways as she did have some filling on her near hind in midweek but it healed up well so we took a chance. I think I can get half-excited about her."
Arabesque didn't settle well in the early stages of the race but Richard Quinn managed to get her covered up. That, in turn, presented him with problems at the business end, as he had to wait for a split between John Gosden's Pleasure Center on the rail and the weakening Shalimar. When the gap came she had to make up a lot of ground and the winner had first run on her. She is sure to be seen to greater effect next year on a sounder surface.
Secret Destiny was one of the hard-luck stories of the race. She was trapped in behind at a crucial stage, made up plenty of ground when she saw daylight and is very much one to follow next year. Shalimar and Pleasure Center had every chance but were tapped for toe while Reematna was a little bit unlucky and jockey Michael Tebbutt was far from hard on her.
Banco Suivi ran well in fifth and can be expected to improve on this. |
